To be honest, most anti-aging treatments that are effective don’t come cheap and if you’re on a tight budget this can be discouraging. Treatments such as sessions of microdermabrasion, acid peels, laser, injectable and thermage are also very expensive and not everyone can afford it.
But then again, what if you could have access to something that is more effective and pocket friendly? What more, it’s so convenient that you could use it from the comfort of your house?
Yes – the product exists! Are you familiar with the word “micro-needling” and do you understand what it’s all about? This is not like the numerous skin-care fads out there. It has stood the test of time — almost two decades now!
How does it Work?
We’ll start by explaining what micro-needling is? Micro-needling is also called derma rolling. The name is derived from the tool used, a derma roller, which bear a resemblance to a tiny paint roller covered with tiny needles.
No need to worry about the needles, they are very tiny and painless. Micro-needling has been in existence since the early 2000’s and essentially works the way a laser treatment would.
When applied on the skin, there are two things you should expect from the derma roller: firstly, it aids better penetration of the skincare products on the skin because of minute pinpricks that work virtually like small tunnels, this allows your products to penetrate deeply into the skin (mostly serums since they're very viscous). Secondly, it produces micro-injuries, which communicates to the brain that repair is needed. Next, the body sends collagen to the epidermis because it’s been alerted. Collagen is vital to building a skin that is healthy and radiant. The more collagen your skin has, the better it looks.
The Benefits
You may have heard that derma rolling cures wrinkles, acne scars, sun spots, cellulite and stretch marks. There may be some truth to this but the information is not entirely accurate. The benefits, as well as the results is hugely dependent on the size of needles used for the treatment.
The size of the derma rollers used in most aesthetician offices or at home range between 0.5 and 2.5 mm. They help to even skin texture and pigmentation.
The primary benefit derived is the delay in the onset of the ageing process. It also prevents the occurrence of new fine lines and wrinkles.
